Rathbones Junior Development Programme
The Rathbones Development Programme caters for the development of over 220 young players in Jersey, across a variety of age groups and abilities. The Programme is primarily aimed at young players from primary school age up to 16. All development groups are coordinated by the Jersey Hockey Administrator, Sarah Heelis, contact@jerseyhockey.co.uk.

Puffins is for girls in school years 7 and 8. The Puffins coaching group is the next step in the Jersey Hockey player pathway after the girls have completed their time in the Minis coaching group. We also welcome girls who are new to the game to come and learn the fundamental core skills of hockey and to develop their game in readiness for the next step – competitive club hockey. Guidance can be given to the girls on when it is time for them to make this step and how they should do it. |

Feagles is for boys in school years 7 and 8. The Feagles coaching group is the next step in the Jersey Hockey player pathway after the boys have completed their time in the Minis coaching group. We also welcome boys who are new to the game to come and learn the fundamental core skills of hockey and to develop their game. |

Historically Jersey Hockey have run both boys and girl U16 performance squads and boys and girls U14 performance squads. These squads all entered their respective EH competitions in 2019/2020 and played against Guernsey in an inter insular. The situation with regard to 2020/2021 is uncertain owing to the Covid-19 outbreak. These squads are important steps on the Jersey Hockey player pathway. Girls and Boys are invited to attend trials for these squads either via their school teachers or from observations by relevant Jersey Hockey coaches. |

Junior Inter Insulars take place for both boys and girls at the U14 and U16 age groups. Dates will be agreed with Guernsey and advised accordingly. |

The U14 and U16 GIRLS are now run by Jersey Hockey. Neil Merritt will lead the U14s in 2019/2020 and David Stearn will lead the U16s in 2019/2020. Both the U14 and U16 performance squads are very important steps on the Jersey Hockey player pathway. Girls are invited to attend trials for this squad either via their school teachers or from observations of relevant Jersey Hockey coaches. Invitations are sent out in the summer preceding the start of a new season. The girls will enter England Hockey's U16 and U14 Club competitions and will play against Guernsey in annual inter insular matches. |

For more information on the Player Pathway please click here. Players in Jersey who are considered to be ready for assessment will be invited to attend a trial, in Jersey, at which England Hockey coaches will be present. From that trial they may be nominated for an assessment for Performance Centres. The Performance Centres are the level of the Player Pathway that is above the Academy Centres |
