Welcome to Jersey Hockey

Jersey Hockey governs the sport of hockey in Jersey and is sponsored by Rathbones. Jersey Hockey provides competitive hockey and coaching for men, women, boys and girls of all ages.

Covid-19 and Jersey Hockey ("JHL")

Below you will see the requirements set out by JHL, along with our most up to date guidance, for all members and their households.

Some members have asked why JHL's policy is more stringent than the Government's in respect of its isolation policy.

We are not privy to the Government's consideration when setting their policy but suspect their rationale includes:-

1) Keeping ALL Islanders safe

2) Ensuring continuity of service within businesses and the economy generally

3) Adopting a policy which can be enforced

JHL's rationale is similar and because we are a smaller community (approx 600 members) we can adopt a more targeted approach. Given we are a smaller, more interconnected community, our stricter rules are there to allow the sport to continue without risk of shutdown because of a Covid case in our facility.  Please remember many sports have not had the same enjoyment of playing as hockey has and your board wish to protect this.

As you will be aware, various matches involving Victoria College, Caesareans and other junior teams have already had to be postponed due to Covid within those squads and the isolation rules in place.   Such teams play against and/or alongside mixed age teams and are often supported  by their family so we need to ensure that our matches, and post match hospitality within the Clubhouse, do not result in incidences of Covid within the hockey community - which would lead to a general shut down of hockey operations and the closure of the Clubhouse.

There will be members who do consider the extra measures strict and we are sorry to inconvenience them but we ask for their patience and support for these regulations.  We have already had two visits from the States Police so it is important that we can demonstrate that we have policies in place and are responsible members of Jersey's society.  This may help should the Government consider stricter lock down provisions themselves.

We want to ensure that hockey remains a safe environment for members, their friends and family so whilst you may consider JHL's approach strict, please support the current rules for everyone's long term benefit.

Thank you

The Board of Jersey Hockey Limited

Covid-19 Requirements

All participants in hockey should make sure they have had and understood their responsibilities and requirements in the Advice for Participants.  All participants must sign the Covid 19 Declaration which will have been sent to you via Teamo.  By signing off on this Declaration you agree to the requirements as stated in the Advice for Participants and Advice for Coaches.  You must also access your Teamo profile (top left icon on the Teamo App) and ensure the Covid-19 Restrictions Consent has been ticked.  Only those with an active Teamo Covid-19 Declaration will be able to attend training sessions and/or matches.

All participants of hockey are required to read the Teamo Play Safe requirements and must register their attendance at all training sessions or matches using the Teamo QR Code which will be available on arrival at the Les Quennevais and Claremont Field pitches.

Jersey Hockey - Updated Guidance at 3.12.2020

First of all can we take this opportunity to thank the members of Jersey Hockey for their support and patience as we deal with the COVID-19 outbreak.

As we are sure you are aware the Government of Jersey have issued further COVID-19 restrictions in the last few days in light of the increasing number of positive cases on the island.  We are pleased to say that, for the time being, we are allowed to continue playing but further changes will need to be implemented to further help prevent the spread of COVID-19.

These changes are as follows:-

  • only those players or officials who are participating in a match or a training session may enter the Hockey Clubhouse Site ("the Site").  Spectators are not permitted to enter the Site.

  • The Clubhouse Bar & Eatery (upstairs in the Clubhouse) will be closed from 00:01 on Friday 4th December 2020 until further notice.

Match Days and Training Sessions - Players and Officials

  • matches will continue to be played under normal playing conditions but all participants must be aware that they must observe a 2 metre physical distance from anyone outside of their household (a) before the match, (b) at half-time and (c) after the match.

  • use of the changing rooms/showers is NOT permitted except to go to the toilet.  You should arrive at the Site changed and ready to play with as little other 'kit' with you as possible.  When your match has ended you should leave the Site as soon as possible.  No kit should be taken into the changing rooms.

  • if you need to use a toilet you should ensure no-one else is in the relevant changing room where the toilet is situated.  If you need to wait then you should do so OUTSIDE the building and ensure you maintain a 2 metre distance from anyone in that area.

  • training sessions can continue but all participants MUST observe a 2 metre distance at all times.  This will, therefore, mean that appropriate conditions will need to be put on any drills or practice matches to ensure the 2 metre distance is maintained at all times.

  • revised start and finish times for matches are being worked on and will be sent to all teams as soon as possible.

Jersey Hockey is aware that teams may experience problems with availability for fixtures at this time and acknowledge the need for all teams to be flexible. We will endeavour to reschedule matches where possible.

Jersey Hockey Development Programme
(includes: Back to Hockey, Super Minis, Minis, Puffins, Falcons & Eagles ("Feagles"), Caesareans and Goalkeepers)

Please be advised that all coaching sessions for the above groups have been cancelled until further notice. Any league matches for Feagles and Caesareans will continue to be played.

We all have a responsibility to play our part in adhering to the COVID-19 guidance. Adherence to measures will be monitored and any poor practice will reflect badly on the sport and may impact our longer-term desire to continue playing.  Where guidance is clearly not being adhered to Jersey Hockey will follow up with clubs accordingly.

Contact Tracing

No member or members of a household in which a person or persons have been contacted by the Contact Tracing Team and asked to have one or more Covid-19 tests should enter the Jersey Hockey Clubhouse Site until the person or persons in their household who have been asked to have tests have received negative results and until the contact tracing process has been completed (as directed by the Contact Tracing Team).  Full details regarding Contact Tracing can be found here:-    https://www.gov.je/health/coronavirus/testing/pages/contacttracing.aspx
