U16 Boys & Girls Inter Insulars

Junior Hockey U16s Inter Insular Matches

On Sunday 21st January, Jersey hosts the Junior Hockey U16s Mixed InterInsular Festival at Les Quennevais starting from 11 am.  The idea to play both the Girls’ and Boys’ U16s InterInsulars on the same day and to incorporate some mixed matches after the main games was trialled in Guernsey for the first time last year.  It was a huge success and now it’s Jersey’s turn to host the event.

This year, the Boys’ game has added spice in that the match is doubling up as the two teams’ League fixture in the England Hockey National Championships, as well as being the annual InterInsular, which the Jersey boys currently hold.  Both islands need the three points for a win in the National Championships to have any chance of progressing out of the League through to the next stage.

The Caesarean girls are looking to avenge last year’s InterInsular defeat in Guernsey and to win back the Trophy.  They are also using the match as a very useful warm-up for their impending trip to the UK to try and secure qualification to the National Championships Regional Round, having made an impressive start with two wins from their first two matches in the UK in November.

Following the two main games there follows two evenly split Mixed inter-island matches with more of a fun element to them.  All local support will be very welcome.

Coach Quotes:

Ciara McQuaid                  “Preparation has gone very well with us having added sessions to this year's build up to incorporate more match play. As a result, the team are comfortable playing together and have already had great success in the U16 England Hockey Competition. I am confident that we will win the Inter-insular trophy back this year.”

Bill Aston                             “We are looking forward to a competitive game against Guernsey.  This is must win game for both teams but if we play to our potential as a team then I am hopeful we will get the right result.”

Dom Pallot                          “The boys are well prepared and are really looking forward to Sunday.  The match will be competitive and we will have to play to our potential but we are confident that we will come away with the victory to keep the InterInsular Trophy and three important points in the National Championships to keep this season’s campaign alive.”
