Junior Summer Mixed 7's Tournament

Rathbones Summer Mixed Junior Hockey Tournament 2017

This year’s annual popular Junior Hockey Mixed tournament has just come to an end, the ninth year that it’s been run.  The theme was ‘Super Heroes’ and a large number of Jersey’s young girl and boy hockey players battled it out over 9 sessions between April and June.  Over 60 players aged between 11 and 14 were put into six evenly matched mixed squads for the tournament.

The players get to play in competitive half-pitch matches in mixed teams under normal hockey rules and are umpired by local club players.

The young players’ improvement through the tournament was again very obvious, enhanced by playing with boys and girls their own age but also by being coached and managed by experienced senior and junior Jersey Hockey volunteers.

This year’s tournament retained a fun penalty flick completion and for the first time a team knockout ‘shuffles’ competition both alongside the main team tournament.

Immediately after the Finals Day session, the prizes and awards were presented to the winning teams and individual players selected by their managers on several criteria.

In the closing awards, tributes were made to Rathbones for their fantastic support to Jersey Hockey Development and to the many volunteers who had helped make the tournament such a success.

Tournament organisers Dominic Pallot, Sarah Heelis, Lisa Grant and Neil Merritt were extremely pleased with the players’ development and enjoyment.  Organised by David Stearn and Roger Le Maistre, a BBQ and fun with Zorb Balls and Swegways wrapped up the tournament.
