Herbert Fair Play Award |
|
The Herbert Fair Play award is presented annually to a person or persons who goes above and beyond in committing their time to the development of our juniors or to a development team who have shown a great approach to the sport – the clue being in the title – fair play. This year’s winner has been a member of the junior coaching team for some years and, hopefully, for many more to come! He coaches within several junior groups and this year headed up the Puffins Girls group. He also took on the responsibility for Quackers 2nd XI. Latterly he has taken a place on the Development Sub-Committee.

The Lynn Hotton Special Award |
The ‘Lynn Hotton’ Special award is presented annually to someone who has gone above and beyond in their contribution to Jersey Hockey. Since the introduction of our Walking Hockey/Back to Hockey this person has been on hand to run these sessions. The group has flourished and has developed into a pretty competitive bunch who had their first match on the ‘big pitch’ yesterday. It is hoped that some of the group will migrate to the men’s and women’s leagues in the future but most importantly Ali has developed another ‘way to play’ within Jersey Hockey.

Deutsche Bank Perpetual Trophy (trophy missing) |
The Deutsche Bank Perpetual Trophy was presented by Deutsche bank at the end of their tenure as sponsors of Jersey Hockey Development. We have determined that it should be presented to someone or some team who have previously gone above and beyond in respects of development hockey. This year the winner is someone who shows a tremendous amount of care for the players he coaches and who really puts a lot of thought into players’ development. He too sits on the Development Sub-Committee and his thoughtful approach has been fundamental in informing other coaches and players alike.

Huge thanks go to both of these individuals. To Ian: thank you so much for organising the umpiring rota – possibly the worst job within Jersey Hockey. To Tony: thank you for all the time you give up for Jersey Hockey, not just umpiring!

Simon Fry Junior Volunteer Trophy |
Simon Fry is a friend of Jersey Hockey who has visited the island many times playing for the England LX team. He has very kindly donated £1,200 to Jersey Hockey. This trophy has been bought and each recipient will receive a voucher to go with it. The award will be given to a junior volunteers/officials within the Development Programme each year and nominations are received from lead coaches of our Development Groups/clubs. We are keen to ensure that we don’t just focus on players but also set good patterns within hockey (starting with the Juniors) about giving back to the sport we all love.

Sally MacDowall Women’s Masters Trophy |

We remember our friend Sally MacDowall who passed away in late 2019. In her will Sally asked that a trophy be presented within ladies hockey. It was decided that this Women’s Masters Trophy would be the most fitting. It is presented for 2020 to the person who held the Women’s O35s team together!
