Match report: TPS Quackers 1s 5, Augre Physiotherapy Nomads 1s 4

TPS Quackers 1s 5, Augre Physiotherapy Nomads 1s 4.

Quackers came out on top against Nomads in a thrilling encounter on Saturday afternoon in Rathbones Ladies Division 1.  After trading early periods of pressure, Quackers won a penalty corner and Chelsea Dollar was on hand to flick the ball home after Nomads’ keeper Bronte Kellett had made a good first save. Nomads equalised shortly afterwards through a penalty corner; Lisa Grant-Phillips’ strong strike finding the bottom corner. Quackers once again took the lead through Sophie Davies, the youngster showing great skill to find the top corner with a reverse hit. After the half time break Quackers further extended their lead as Tach Kay’s strike from another PC was too powerful for the Nomads’ keeper. Despite being two goals behind, Nomads fought back hard and cut the deficit with Kathryn Godfrey slapping in. The play was end to end and Quackers restored their two-goal cushion after Larissa Perree pounced on a loose ball after a goal-mouth scrap. Once again Nomads fought back, Lisa Grant-Phillips capitalising on some confusion in the D to smash the loose ball into the roof of the net. They managed to find an equaliser shortly afterwards after Nicky O’Connor’s deftly hit reverse strike went in off the post. With the scores level, both teams searched for the winner and luckily for Quackers, Kay was on hand to provide it, finishing off yet another penalty corner to give last year’s champions the victory.
